Wieneke, Ohnesorge set to take on East-West Shrine Game

Dallas Goedert is getting as much pre-NFL draft attention as any player in South Dakota State history, and the Britton Bomber is in California preparing for the Jan. 27 Senior Bowl.

He’s not the only Jackrabbit with NFL aspirations,Authentic Corey Linsley Jersey, and this week wide receiver Jake Wieneke and center Jacob Ohnesorge are preparing for the East-West Shrine Game.,Authentic Nick Perry Jersey, though

Wieneke and Ohnesorge are both on the roster of the West squad and will take the field against college stars from across the nation Saturday in St. Petersburg,Authentic Morgan Burnett Jersey, Fla. The game will be televised on the NFL Network at 2 p.m.

Wieneke has been training in Texas, womens Mason Crosby Jersey, Ohnesorge in New Jersey, womens David Bakhtiari Jersey, at the behest of their agents. But this week they’re practicing with their Shrine Game teams, womens Jack Mewhort Jersey, with a chance to show how they stack up and raise their profiles. While Goedert is expected to be an early pick, hoping instead to make enough of an impression to get an invite to a rookie minicamp.,Authentic John Simon Jersey, Wieneke could be on the draft bubble, while Ohnesorge is unlikely to be drafted

“This is a huge opportunity for our guys,” said Jacks offensive line coach Jason Eck. “When scouts came in this year they would tell us they watched film of the TCU game; that’s because they want to see them against the best possible competition. That’s what this is – it’s a chance for our guys to go up against (major conference) guys and show how they compete. It’s awesome for them and a reflection of how hard they’ve worked and the direction our program is going.”

Wieneke is the most decorated player in SDSU history. He graduates with 288 catches,157 yards and 59 touchdowns, 5, all school records. He’s a four-time, well, 215-pounds his measurable will serve him well., everything, womens Corey Linsley Jersey, womens Nick Perry Jersey, womens Morgan Burnett Jersey, and at 6-foot-4

Ohnesorge is undersized at 6-3,Authentic Mason Crosby Jersey, but as a four-year starter and four-time all-conference pick he’ll go up against the nation’s best with confidence and maturity.,Authentic David Bakhtiari Jersey, 290-pounds

Eck said the week of practice could be more important than the game itself,Authentic Jack Mewhort Jersey,Authentic Donte Moncrief Jersey, as Wieneke has impressed with highlight-reel catches., as scouts get the chance to watch players compete in position-specific drills ad test themselves in 1-on-1 situations. Highlights have already been making the rounds on social media this week

“Knowing Jake, womens Donte Moncrief Jersey, he’ll thrive in those situations, womens John Simon Jersey, and they’re going to do a lot of 1-on-1 stuff versus the DB’s to see how he handles press coverage. I know Jake will do a great job.”,” said SDSU receivers coach Robert Arnheim. “Anytime there’s a competitive situation he tends to rise to the occasion. They’re going to want to see how he runs,Authentic Jabaal Sheard Jersey, there’s going to be a lot of weight put into 7-on-7 practice stuff

Statistically Wieneke wasn’t quite as productive as a senior, finishing with 965 receiving yards after surpassing 1,womens Jabaal Sheard Jersey, and also noted that Wieneke never implied that he needed more catches to help his draft stock.,300 in each of his first three years. But Arnheim pointed out that SDSU won a handful of blowouts in which Wieneke didn’t play a full game

Chiefs’ Ramik Wilson makes bid for starting job with Derrick Johnson’s help

and there’s plenty of experimentation.,womens A.J. Bouye Jersey,You can’t take everything that happens in the preseason as a sure thing. Offenses and defenses are vanilla

chances are he has more work to do in recognizing plays.,But what you can do — especially when it comes to inside linebackers — is watch them closely and study how quickly they diagnose and attack simple running plays. If you see a young player hesitateAuthentic Malik Jackson Jersey,”

One player who used to fit this description is Chiefs inside linebacker Ramik Wilson,Authentic Abry Jones Jersey, a third-year pro who went from being hesitant to aggressive last year. Wilson was cut by the Chiefs last September, but bounced back to the 53-man roster after a rash of injuries and reestablished himself as one of the team’s better inside linebackers., a year after he was drafted in the fourth round

Wilson, 25, has built on that improvement with a strong training camp and preseason, and even earning some praise from coach Andy Reid., flowing to the football quickly and decisively in both of the Chiefs’ preseason games, womens Abry Jones Jersey,

“Ramik Wilson, I think,” Reid said. “He had good experience last year and I like what we’ve seen. You asked about the diagnosing of plays, has stepped it up a notch even from last year, along with having good instincts. He’s shown that he has both of those.”, and being able to do that as a linebacker becomes very importantwomens Patrick Omameh Jersey

which humbled him after his release. He credits star inside linebacker Derrick Johnson for helping him learn how to watch tape.,Wilson realized the importance of those traits during his stint on the practice squad last season,Authentic A.J. Bouye Jersey

“(The difference) is just knowing what type of plays I’ll get — (it’s) play recognition, who has been helping me out a lot.”,” Wilson said. “I’ve been doing my film study with D.J.,Authentic Barry Church Jersey,

As the strong-side “mike” linebacker, womens Telvin Smith Jersey, aggression is necessary. Wilson is charged with diagnosing quickly, taking on blocks and filling gaps to bounce the ball outside and also free up Johnson,Authentic Marcedes Lewis Jersey, who has a lot more freedom to run and hit., the weak-side inside linebacker

” Wilson said.,womens Jalen Ramsey Jersey“I can play more downhill

Wilson has received no shortage of motivation to keep improving. For one,Authentic Patrick Omameh Jersey, the Chiefs’ porous run defense down the stretch a year ago crested with Pittsburgh running back Le’Veon Bell’s 30-carry, 170-yard performance in the Chiefs’ 18-16 home loss to the Steelers in the AFC playoffs, womens Malik Jackson Jersey, who was the primary inside linebacker in the game., a defeat that remains with Wilson

“We’ve watched film on it, talked about where we could improve, but it’s much better now.”,” Wilson said. “Our communication is better — there were times where we weren’t all on the same page in the defensive front, womens Barry Church Jersey,

There is no shortage of players competing with Wilson for the starting job. While Johnson is a lock to make the roster, Wilson is competing with four other inside linebackers who have earned meaningful NFL snaps in Terrance Smith, Justin March-Lillard and Kevin Pierre-Louis. There’s also a fifth-round rookie (Ukeme Eligwe) in the mix who the coaches have raved about., Josh Maugawomens Marcedes Lewis Jersey

“That’s what you want, you want to keep upgrading at each position — that’s only gonna make everybody better,” Wilson said, Pierre-Louis and Eligwe did not effect him., when explaining why the offseason additions of Mauga,Authentic Paul Posluszny Jersey

All of the inside linebackers,Authentic Telvin Smith Jerseyof course, cannot make the team, womens Paul Posluszny Jersey,a starter in 2014., though it’s telling that defensive coordinator Bob Sutton seemed to hint Tuesday that the decision for the job next to job is between Wilson and Mauga

“(Ramik) is in the hunt — I think that’s been a great competition between him and Josh,Authentic Jalen Ramsey JerseySutton said. “I know both of them have worked hard and are certainly worthy of the position. The next two weeks is going to determine what happens there.”, and we’re fortunate to have two guys who have played and started

The first 10 words of the following sentence might make you roll your eyes or laugh or curse, but here it comes anyway:

If the Chiefs are to win a Super Bowl soon — HAHAHAHAHA! — the first full offseason with general manager Brett Veach must be a pivotal and productive one that breaks franchise convention and challenges personal comforts.

The Chiefs’ roster is at least five years in the making, and if the pieces mostly fit they don’t always connect. Four postseasons in five years can be reason for pride, but if the men involved are honest with themselves they must also know it’s not nearly enough.

Blake Bortles has now won more playoff games this month than the Chiefs have in two decades, and the Jaguars’ participation in the AFC Championship Game is a reminder that no franchises are given success and none are prohibited from it.

The Chiefs are at a moment in their history that will either further confirm a well-earned reputation of being just good enough to break their fans’ hearts or rewrite their story the way the Royals did in 2014 and 2015.

The urgency must be felt. Eric Berry turned 29 last month. Justin Houston turns 29 on Sunday. Travis Kelce will do the same in October. Tamba Hali has almost certainly played his last game with the Chiefs, ending 12 years here that featured four GMs, four head coaches and at least three distinct “building” phases.

He is far from the first talented player to give his career to the Chiefs without receiving any postseason success in return.

It is largely up to Veach and the decisions of this offseason to determine whether stars like Berry,Authentic Corey Perry jersey, Houston and Kelce will avoid the same fate.

right? Sign good players,Authentic Ryan Getzlaf jersey, duh. But this will be Veach’s first real test in the new job. Whether through the draft or free agency,Authentic Ryan Kesler jersey, defensive line,Authentic Shane Doan jersey, Veach should target, adidas Oliver Ekman-Larsson jersey, in order: cornerback, adidas Mike Smith jersey, safety, edge rush,Authentic Radim Vrbata jersey,Pretty basic, adidas Bobby Orr jersey, backup quarterback, interior offensive line, middle linebacker and tight end.

including defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson,The free-agent fits are intriguing, defensive back Lamarcus Joyner, and others. The group is always in flux, cornerback Prince Amukamara, because free agents can be tagged, adidas Corey Perry jersey, and players under contract for 2018 (like Broncos corner Aqib Talib) can be released.

The Chiefs don’t have a first-round pick, adidas Ryan Getzlaf jersey, so Veach will be tested right away. It’s interesting that all three local FBS schools have potential fits: Dorance Armstrong from Kansas, adidas Ryan Kesler jersey, adidas Shane Doan jersey, Marcell Frazier from Missouri and D.J. Reed from K-State.

Chance of adding enough: 60 percent,Authentic Oliver Ekman-Larsson jersey, but this completely depends on your trust in Veach.

The Chiefs can potentially save more than $20 million in cap space by cutting Hali ($8 million) and cutting or reworking deals with linebacker Derrick Johnson ($8 million in potential savings) and defensive lineman Allen Bailey ($6 million in potential savings).Authentic Mike Smith jersey,

Cutting Hali will be the team’s easiest decision of the offseason. He’s a franchise icon but played just five games last season, adidas Max Domi jersey, adidas Radim Vrbata jersey, which presents hope he could be stronger the more removed he is from his second Achilles rupture. But he’s certainly not worth $8 million in 2018 and may not even be worth a restructured deal, with limited snaps. His contract is impossible to justify. Johnson was better late in the season,Authentic Bobby Orr jersey, depending on how it affects future seasons.

Bailey is productive but could reasonably be asked to restructure. Other potential cuts or savings include veteran corner Darrelle Revis ($4.5 million), tight end Demetrius Harris ($2 million) and even linebacker Dee Ford ($8.7 million).Authentic Max Domi jersey

Will Albert Wilson return to Kansas City Chiefs in 2018?

most Kansas City Chiefs fans likely thought little of bringing wide receiver Albert Wilson back for another year. It was easy to fall in love with preseason stars like Marcus Kemp,Authentic Markus Golden Jersey,Before the 2017 season,Authentic Pat Tillman Jersey, especially after his 2016 campaign., who we hoped get the roster spot instead. I’ll admit that I was one of those fans

however..,Wilson changed my mind in 2017womens T. J. Logan Jersey,

The undrafted free agent had a very disappointing 2016 season finishing with only 279 yards. There was plenty of question about his motivation or effort in games last year. It was a completely different story in 2017 as Wilson looked much more refined. His routes looked much improved, and the biggest change was that he wasn’t afraid to get hit., he fought for extra yards after every catchwomens Markus Golden Jersey

Wilson was a big contributor in the final drive against Denver catching three passes for 40 yards to help get the Chiefs in position for a field goal.,In fact, womens Pat Tillman Jersey,

it changes things a bit. Not only was Wilson the Chiefs third receiver but he also wracked up 554 yards while playing in twelve games and on a team that had two 1,Authentic Chandler Jones Jersey,None of these stats make you jump out of your seat at first glance. When you remember that Wilson is the third receiver,Authentic John Brown Jersey,000-yard rusher. That’s impressive.,womens Haason Reddick Jersey,000 yard receivers and a 1

The 25-year-old receiver made catches this season that no one expected. There were numerous grabs that ended with him getting laid out as he came down with the ball. He had never been a big contributor in a single game till week 17 when he broke multiple career highs.womens Dorian Johnson Jersey,

Before week 17,womens Budda Baker Jersey, Wilson was a big contributor in the final drive against Denver catching three passes for 40 yards to help get the Chiefs in position for a field goal.,Authentic Dorian Johnson Jersey, Wilson had yet to catch more than five passes or collect more than 87 receiving yards in a single game. He finished week 17 with 10 catches for 147 yards in only 28 offensive snaps. There was a true chemistry between Wilson and rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The fourth-year receiver also set a career high with 554 yards on the season on 42 receptions. In fact

it changes things a bit. Not only was Wilson the Chiefs third receiver but he also wracked up 554 yards while playing in twelve games and on a team that had two 1,Authentic T. J. Logan Jersey,None of these stats make you jump out of your seat at first glance. When you remember that Wilson is the third receiver,000-yard rusher. That’s impressive.,000 yard receivers and a 1womens John Brown Jersey,

they needed Wilson to step up in this offense. Wilson missed games against the Pittsburgh Steelers,When Chiefs receiver Chris Conley went down for the season, Dallas Cowboys, all of which the quarterback Alex Smith and the offense severely struggled with lack of depth at the position. While he doesn’t make huge contributions on the stat sheet game-to-game, he is a part of this offense and a go-to guy for Smith.,womens Chandler Jones Jersey, and New York Giants

Following the best season of his career,Authentic Haason Reddick Jersey, they will have to pay a bit more for him. Not big money but not league minimum either.,Authentic Budda Baker Jersey Wilson could have some leverage when it comes to contract negotiations. It’s possible that the veteran could move on to a new team next year where he will play a bigger role and get more opportunities. If the Chiefs want to keep Wilson in Kansas City,Authentic Chad Williams Jersey,

something I expect them to improve this offseason. Another likely landing spot would be the Cleveland Browns where former Chiefs GM John Dorsey has taken a new job. Dorsey was one of the biggest reasons that Wilson stuck around Kansas City.,womens Chad Williams Jersey,Another option for Wilson could be following offensive coordinator Matt Nagy to the Chicago Bears where they desperately need help at the wide receiver position. Rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky had almost zero talent around him in 2017

Why Auburn football’s 2018 pass rush is in better spot than usual despite Jeff Holland’s early exit

Auburn football must replace its sack leader from the previous season. It’s become the norm for the Tigers since 2013 — Dee Ford to Kris Frost to Cassanova McKinzy to Carl Lawson to Jeff Holland.,Authentic Nathan Peterman Jersey,For the fifth consecutive year

and they cracked 30-plus as a team for the first time since the same campaign.,Holland’s early departure for the 2018 NFL Draft came after one of the best seasons for Auburn’s defense in a long time. Some of that came down to the excellent pass rush. The Tigers had a player hit double digits in sacks for the first time since Ford’s 2013 season

Auburn will undoubtedly miss Holland, the linebacker-turned-defensive end from Jacksonville,Authentic Cardale Jones Jersey, who became “Sensei Mud” in his breakout 2017 season.,Authentic Ronald Darby Jersey, Fla.

pass rush and overall team success has gone hand-in-hand for most of the past decade. Auburn had a fierce pass rush in 2009 with Antonio Coleman that set the tone for Nick Fairley’s Lombardi season in the Tigers’ 2010 national championship campaign.,womens John Miller Jersey,For Auburn

Auburn went backward in 2011 and 2012 and had 22 sacks in each season. In 2013, Ford had his 10.5-sack season,Authentic Zay Jones Jersey, and on-field performance sagged again., and Auburn went to the final BCS National Championship Game. The Tigers lacked a true pass rusher in 2014 and 2015

Lawson stayed healthy and engineered 9.0 sacks en route to a Sugar Bowl berth. Holland capitalized on what he learned behind Holland and raised the level to 10 sacks on an improved 10-win team.,In 2016

it’s arguably more equipped to do that than at any other time in the past 10 years.,Those trends suggest Auburn needs a strong pass rush in order to succeed at a high level again in 2018. Fortunately for Auburn

the most since 2012. Auburn hasn’t returned more than 20 sacks in the past decade.,Even with Holland’s departure — along with the production of seniors Tre’ Williams and Tray Matthews — Auburn will return 23.5 sacks in 2018. That’s 64 percent of its production

he didn’t cause havoc on opposing quarterbacks alone.,womens Cardale Jones Jersey, womens Ronald Darby Jersey,Though Holland was one of the nation’s best players in terms of sacks last season

Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele will be able to rely on plenty of players with pass-rushing experience in 2018. Auburn will bring back 11 players who had at least a half-sack in 2017. Seven of them — Marlon Davidson,Authentic John Miller JerseyDerrick Brown, womens Tre'Davious White Jersey, womens Zay Jones Jersey, Deshaun Davis,Authentic Dion Dawkins Jersey, Nick Coe and T.D. Moultry — had multiple sacks.,womens Dion Dawkins Jersey, womens Nathan Peterman Jersey, Dontavius Russell, Big Kat Bryant

The Tigers had much more success in 2017 with their blitzes from the linebacker and defensive back positions than they did in 2016 under Steele. A defense that can attack quarterbacks in a variety of ways is definitely a more dangerous one.,Authentic Tre'Davious White Jersey

Med student Laurent Duvernay-Tardif is back in football mode with Chiefs

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif is back in football mode. The starting guard returned from his native Montreal, womens Chad Williams Jersey, where he’s in medical school at McGill University,Authentic Dorian Johnson Jersey,Fresh off three months spent finishing his clinical work toward his medical degree,Authentic T. J. Logan Jersey, and rejoined the Kansas City Chiefs in time for the start of offseason practice this week.

Duvernay-Tardif may have to make the medicine to football transition only once more. After a couple of offseason months in emergency medicine in medical school and another in geriatrics, Duvernay-Tardif said he’s finished with his clinical requirements toward his degree.

All that stands between him and graduation is an exam he is scheduled to take next May.

“I’ve got eight months to study,’’ Duvernay-Tardif said. “Of course I won’t be studying during the season. But as soon as the season is over I’ll have a good three months to study for that.’’

Duvernay-Tardif has been going back and forth from medicine to football since being drafted by the Chiefs in 2014. He tends to his studies each year when the Chiefs finish their season. He’ll come to Kansas City for the start of offseason practice in May and be about football the rest of the year.

“The hardest transition is moving from finishing up the football season to getting back into the emergency department,’’ he said. “That transition is kind of hard because all of the spotlight focuses on you in the football stadium, although not that much because we’re [offensive] linemen. Duvernay-Tardif signed a five-year contract extension with the Chiefs worth about $41 million, the kind of deal that would perhaps make most people rethink their commitment to med school.

Duvernay-Tardif’s initial thought after signing the contract was that he wanted to finish his studies. He was in fact back tending to his med-school responsibilities in Montreal mere hours after a quick late February trip to Kansas City to sign the deal.

He hasn’t changed his mind despite having time to digest the contract and its consequences.

Pros and Cons of keeping Alex Smith for the Kansas City Chiefs

As the NFL season is coming to an end and the Super Bowl two weeks away, womens Kevin White Jersey, the Kansas City Chiefs are already preparing for next season. Several roster changes will be made, probably more this offseason than previous ones due to many of them being starters. Names like Derrick Johnson, Tampa Hali,Authentic Mitchell Trubiskyn Jersey, Allen Bailey, womens Adam Shaheen Jersey, Dee Ford, womens Tarik Cohen Jersey, Darrelle Revis and ultimately Alex Smith are fine examples. What moves will be made that is best for the team and the franchise going forward?

Are the Chiefs still in the window of making it to a Super Bowl with this roster? Honestly,Authentic Leonard Floyd Jersey, no. The past two seasons were the opportunity and they “Chiefed”, the Chiefs need to seriously reevaluate their entire roster; more than just the names listed earlier.,womens Cody Whitehair Jersey,Authentic Eddie Goldman Jersey, meaning they do what they seem to always do. Break our hearts just as we are starting to get excited again by losing in a somewhat unbelievable fashion. With losses like that taking place two years in a row

One name that has remained atop of many fans list is quarterback Alex Smith. As Patrick Mahomes awaits in the shadows before stepping into the bright light of expectations that have been placed upon him. Since Smith has been the main topic of discussion of many Chiefs fans, I believe now is the time to discuss the pros and cons of Smith remaining with Kansas City Chiefs next season.

Smith has led the Chiefs to the playoffs every year but one since coming to Kansas City. While having a top five win-loss record in the entire NFL as a quarterback for the Chiefs. He reliably solidified the quarterback position for the first time since Trent Green. Smith is extremely intelligent and accurate, which was on display for a majority of the season. Smith was placing the ball in tight windows, but this season he did a spectacular job and led the NFL in several passing categories., hitting the deep throws and the deep out routes. Those were all aspects of Smith’s game that fans were upset with last season

The biggest pro of keeping Smith for next season is the fact that Andy Reid was finally able to open his entire playbook. Utilizing all of his weapons with Smith at the helm of the offense. If Patrick Mahomes steps into the starting role next season, Reid has to essentially start the trusting process over and only give spurts of his playbook.

Why should the Chiefs trade away something as reliable as Smith? The Chiefs issues this season started primarily on the defensive side of the ball and the offensive line. The middle season struggles of the season had an effect on Smith as well. He lost two receivers that he had a great connection with Chris Conley and Albert Wilson, as the relationship with Tyreek Hill was blossoming. When Conley and Wilson went down the Chiefs receiving core dropped tremendously in productivity.,Authentic Jonathan Bullard Jersey

Smith did his part in keeping this team in contention and executing his role throughout the season. The Chiefs are set to owe Smith 17 million dollars. After this year’s performance and ending it with another trip to the Pro Bowl, womens Mitchell Trubiskyn Jersey, Smith has earned the 17 million dollar contract.

After listing every great advantage of Smith,Authentic Adam Shaheen Jersey,Authentic Tarik Cohen Jersey,Authentic Eddie Jackson Jersey, it is now time to list every flaw in his game. That is only fair, womens Eddie Jackson Jersey, womens Leonard Floyd Jersey, but at the same time,Authentic Cody Whitehair Jerseyright? Smith does a great job taking care of the ball and not being the sole purpose in a loss for the Chiefs, womens Jonathan Bullard Jersey, Smith was never the sole purpose for a Chiefs win either. The Chiefs rely too heavily on explosion plays and turnovers. This season was a prime example of needing Smith to step up and lead this team when the defense could not.

He proved during the mid-season struggle that he was not completely capable of the task. Granted losing two reliable receivers does not help any quarterback during tough times. Smith is known to get happy feet in a clean pocket, drop his head and miss guys getting open late in their routes. The option to even find that possible receiver is gone the moment his eyes go down.

During the middle season struggle, womens Eddie Goldman Jersey,Authentic Kevin White Jersey, Smith displayed those flaws quite often. It showed the loss of trust in his offensive line and receivers. Smith was not able to take charge and lead his team when they needed it most. This has led to the downfall of trust from many fans too. Kansas City has felt some serious heartbreak during Smith’s tenure with the team. While some of those heart breaks are not purely his fault, in heartache?, others are. Is Smith worth the 17 million dollar contract if the season will end the same as the previous one

The Bears brought Cairo Santos in Thursday for a physical and he returned Monday to sign a contract as the replacement for Connor Barth.

Now Santos will get a chance to show what he can do before he becomes an unrestricted free agent. He was 3-for-3 on field goals and 6-for-6 on extra points through the first three games with 10 touchbacks on 18 kickoffs. Santos was sidelined during training camp with a groin injury and was reinjured during a Week 3 victory over the Chargers, leading the Chiefs to put him on the shelf and sign Harrison Butker.

The saddest thing about the Chiefs’ season

It is a dreary, and that is fitting., rainy day in Kansas City

It is not “Victory Sunday.” There is nothing to celebrate.

You won’t be watching the Buffalo Bills-Jacksonville Jaguars game wondering where the Chiefs are headed next week.

The season is over, when the Chiefs transformed from a perennial joke to a team you could count on to make the playoffs.,Authentic Hroniss Grasu Jersey, and it is heartbreaking—I’d argue the most heartbreaking loss since 2013

Before Saturday’s game,Authentic Kendall Wright Jersey, I tweeted about how we really do not know the futures of several players that have been so important to this franchise during that five-year span,Authentic Markus Wheatont Jersey, and even some,Authentic Connor Shaw Jersey, well before.

Dustin Colquitt and Albert Wilson are unrestricted free agents. Alex Smith will probably be traded. Derrick Johnson and Tamba Hali, womens Walter Payton Jersey, this season finally did.,womens Jordan Howard Jersey, the 2005 and 2006 first-rounders who never showed their age

And there are more players on this list, the moves involving them become all the more difficult to predict.,womens William Jackson Jersey, and with general manager Brett Veach’s first full offseason upcoming

What is sad about it all is that this team, this group, they deserved better, the guys that made you feel good about football in Kansas City again, and many of them will leave with nothing to show for it.

“The tough part about this obviously is that it’s final and the season ends up being over, you’re never the same team, but the guys coming back, womens Hroniss Grasu Jersey,” Andy Reid said in his opening statement after the game. “That’s just how this thing works, womens Kendall Wright Jersey, we’ll make sure we feel this and then change it. But we have to wait awhile to do that. That’s the problem with games like this.”

What is Murphy’s law again? Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.

That was Saturday night for the Chiefs.Authentic Walter Payton Jersey

10 years from now, womens Markus Wheatont Jersey, the things you’ll remember are Travis Kelce’s concussion and Marcus Mariota’s self-pass (the first one since 1997). You’ll remember the questionable forward progress calls in a contest already being referred to as the “Forward Progress Game” by local influencers.

The Chiefs had an 18-point lead at halftime and they fell into quicksand. The offensive gameplan was thwarted by Kelce’s departure and the run defense reverted back to midseason form.,Authentic Jordan Howard Jersey

And in a flash, this version of the Chiefs gave away its last shot at any kind of Kansas City folklore.

Looking back, womens Connor Shaw JerseyAlex Smith will be spoken about in the same manner as Trent Green—a good quarterback who made the Chiefs competitive.

And that is not necessarily a bad thing. But it isn’t Len Dawson. It isn’t George Brett or Eric Hosmer.

In sports,Authentic William Jackson Jersey, womens Tyler Boyd Jersey, there is a lot of real estate to become great, but to become legendary,Authentic Tyler Boyd Jersey, you must win championships.

What makes me somber about Saturday night is that this group was good enough to do that. Smith was good enough, and Hali and Johnson deserved to ride into the sunset on top after all they have done for this team and city the past decade.

that is the saddest of all.,Authentic Nick Vigil Jersey,But they won’t. And to me

and stood alone,The longest-tenured Chargers player, standing at the precipice of NFL history, milled about at midfield Monday night while his teammates ran through drills. He was the only one with his helmet off, womens Kenny Clark Jersey, surveying the scene.

It was a fleeting moment of reflection for tight end Antonio Gates, womens Jason Spriggs Jersey, who has seen so much in his 15-year career. He began the night one touchdown away from breaking the all-time record for tight ends, his 111 tied with the retired Tony Gonzalez.

For Gates, womens Kyler Fackrell Jersey, the record will have to wait. History was supplanted by heartbreak. He was little more than a decoy in Denver, seldom targeted in a 24-21 win the Broncos clinched with a blocked field goal.

"It's a very tough place to win. As a competitor you like to try to do more,Authentic Quinten Rollins Jersey," Gates said. "As tight ends we want to be more productive. I put my name on that. I don't shy away from that."

Gates has made his share of big plays here. Only four tight ends have caught more passes in Denver than he has —and they all wore Broncos orange.

But that was not to be on Monday night. Gates, womens Kevin King Jersey, with just two catches for 17 yards, will have to wait.

Philip Rivers and Gates have connected on 84 touchdowns, womens Brett Hundley Jersey, the most ever for a quarterback-tight end tandem. Gates has scored on two other receptions during the Rivers era,Authentic Josh Jones Jersey, both thrown by running back LaDainian Tomlinson.

“I don’t have a finish line, said in a pregame interview with former teammate Nick Hardwick on AM 570. “I don’t have a destination. I’m just playing,” Gates, 37, and when it’s all said and done, they tally up the numbers and decide if you’re fit to be in the Hall of Fame.”

though,Gates and Gonzalez, both undoubtedly Canton-bound, were college basketball players in an era when it was somewhat exotic for those athletes to transition to football. Whereas Gonzalez was a star on the football team at California, Gates played basketball at Kent State and hadn't put on pads and a helmet since high school.

Accordingly, Gonzalez was a first-round pick of Kansas City, and Gates landed with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent.,womens Damarious Randall Jersey

said of Gates. "He was fighting just to make the team,"I remember his first training camp back in 2003,Authentic Kenny Clark Jersey," John Spanos, Chargers president of football operations,Authentic Jason Spriggs Jersey, fighting for a roster spot. He was making rookie mistakes and they were coaching him up hard. To see how far he's come now… He came into this league without even knowing if he'd make it to Year 2."

Now,Authentic Kyler Fackrell Jerseya savvy mentor for players such as second-year tight end Hunter Henry, Gates is the grand old man, womens Quinten Rollins Jersey, who might be a rising star but barely factored into the game plan in the opener.

“We’ve got some young guys,Authentic Ty Montgomery Jersey, I was in the Pro Bowl then. I was the No. 1 tight end in the world that year.’ Naw,Authentic Brett Hundley Jersey, no doubt about that,” Gates said in training camp. “I’m like, womens Josh Jones Jersey,‘What? You graduated in what? Man, it’s all fun. What we’ve been able to do over the years, me and Philip.

"Even now when people are talking to me about the way I play and what I can accomplish, 'Man, in my mind I'm just still competing and having fun. I'm doing what I love to do. I ain't thinking about, if I catch this one more touchdown…' "Authentic Damarious Randall Jersey

That was a problem at the end of last season. Rivers and Gates were pressing, it was clear the Chiefs weren’t going to let Gates get the record; he was frequently doubled, chasing that record. In the finale against Kansas City, yet still caught five passes and scored. The full slate of games ahead of them allows Rivers and Gates to unclench and breathe.Authentic Kevin King Jersey

The record didn't fall in Denver, it will. In the meantime, but if Gates stays healthy, the 0-1 Chargers have more pressing goals.,womens Ty Montgomery Jersey

Keenan Allen and Jared Goff Win PFWA Awards

On Friday, the PFWA (Pro Football Writers of America) handed out their year-end awards, while Los Angeles Rams’ quarterback Jared Goff was named the year’s Most Improved Player., and a pair of former Cal football stars found their names on that list. Los Angeles Chargers’ wide receiver Keenan Allen was named the Comeback Player of the Year

Allen’s 2016 season was over almost as quickly as it started. He rocketed out of the gates, making six catches for 63 yards in the first half of the Chargers’ week one game against the Kansas City Chiefs, but he wouldn’t get a second half. In the final two minutes of the first half, resulting in a torn ACL that ended his season less than 30 minutes after it began., Allen suffered a non-contact knee injury

and he did so in remarkable fashion. He played a full 16-game season for the first time in his NFL career, womens Dez Bryant Jersey,He returned to the field for the 2017, and put together a spectacular statistical season. He finished fourth in the NFL with 102 receptions, womens Ezekiel Elliott Jersey, and scored six touchdowns.,Authentic Jake Rudock Jersey, third in the league with 1,393 yards (blasting past his previous career-highs in both categories)

Allen also led the league with 36 third-down receptions,Authentic A'Shawn Robinson Jersey, and became the first player in NFL history to record at least 10 catches, and a touchdown in three consecutive games.,womens Graham Glasgow Jersey,Authentic Jarrad Davis Jersey, 100 yards

surpassing the 100 catches that LaDainian Tomlinson made back in 2003. His yardage total is the second-most in Chargers’ lore,The former Bear set a franchise record for receptions, only behind Lance Alworth’s 1,Authentic Teez Tabor Jersey,602 yards in 1965 (he averaged over 23 yards per catch that year!). As for former Bears in the NFL,332-yard performance from 2013 out of the number-one spot.,393 yards stands alone atop the list of former Bears, Allen’s 102 catches matched Tony Gonzalez’s total from 2004 for the most in a single season by a Cal alum. His 1, knocking Desean Jackson’s 1

and was one of the most prolific receivers in school history. He made 205 receptions,Allen played at Cal from 2010 to 2012, which still stands as a school record, for 2,570 yards (third-most in school history), both second-most in a single season in school history., when he made 98 catches for 1, and scored 17 touchdowns (eighth-most). The 2011 season was his best,343 yards

He’s not the first former Bear to win the PFWA’s Comeback Player of the Year award. He joins Craig Morton, a Cal quarterback from 1962 to 1964, and to the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history., won in 1977 after revitalizing his career with the Denver Broncos as a 34-year-old. He led the Broncos to a 12-2 record

Goff was a large part of the Rams’ impressive and surprising turnaround, and improved from the lowest-scoring team in 2016 to the highest-scoring team in 2017., going from a long-time laughingstock to one of the NFC’s best teams in 2017. They won their first division title and enjoyed their first winning season since the 2003 season

Jahleel Addae Emerging as a Vocal Leader

Every path to an NFL roster is different.

Jahleel Addae’s certainly wasn’t easy.womens Jadeveon Clowney Jersey

Addae fought his way to make the 53-man roster as a rookie. He played primarily on special teams before working his way into a starting role and inking a new four-year contract in March.,Coming in undrafted four years ago

As he enters his fifth season, womens Duane Brow Jersey, Addae is ready to take on 2017 with the same excitement and fervor as in years’ past. Additionally, he’s embracing more of a leadership role in the secondary.

“Going into year five, gelled with us, I’m a little bit more vocal,’ but it’s awesome. I’ve embraced it. This offseason has gone really well for the group all together…. This (rookie) class has done well. They came in,Authentic Tyler Ervin Jersey,” Addae said. “I’m not a young guy anymore. I’m getting on that verge of ‘vet,Authentic Kevin Johnson Jersey, and it’s like we’ve been together for two or three years.”

his play on the field spoke for itself.,womens Benardrick McKinney Jersey,Addae mentioned he has always seen himself in a leadership role. It’s just that although he wasn’t literally speaking up as much as he is now

“Maybe I wasn’t as vocal (before),womens Jaelen Strong Jersey, but I always felt like I was a leader maybe through the way I worked, the way I took care of my body and how I handled my business. I don’t take this job lightly and I think (people) can tell. I play the game with a lot of passion. I just know that with my tenacity and the way I set the tone, womens Julién Davenport Jersey, others will follow.”

he remembers what it was like to come in four years ago. He remembers the challenges he faced and wants to be there for young players who may need his help or advice. ,One of the ways Addae is leading the secondary is through mentoring. While every job in the NFL is earnedAuthentic J.J. Watt Jersey

“It feels good to be a mentor. I know I had mentors that I looked up to and asked questions (to). To be able to give that gratitude back to the young guys is something that I like to do. Sometimes I’ll sit back and remember; I’ll take myself out of my body and I’ll look at someone else in their situation. I know the work that’s coming,Authentic DeAndre Hopkins Jersey, how the game will be fast and how there are a lot of plays in the playbook with different terminology. As a safety, you’re the quarterback of the defense because you’re making the calls and checks. As a young guy,Authentic Jadeveon Clowney Jersey, that can be very demanding.”

As for his play on the field, Addae could not contain his excitement when describing Defensive Coordinator Gus Bradley. According the number 37, Bradley’s demeanor really resonates with the players and he’s looking forward to how his coaching style will continue to influence the defense.Authentic Jaelen Strong Jersey

“He’s honestly a real player’s coach. A lot of times, that phrase gets thrown around, you’re never going to be 100% at what you do. Whether that’s covering somebody, I don’t think you need much motivation, but he’s a legit player’s coach. He knows how to motivate us. At this level, womens Tyler Ervin Jersey, because you (have to) go out there and do your job at a high level, womens Kevin Johnson Jersey, but we’re human and he always gives us the extra push. Whether we’re in meetings,Authentic Benardrick McKinney Jersey,he paints a picture for us. We see it visually and he does a great job (giving) a lot of positive encouragement. There’s not a lot of negativity around him and that trickles down through all the coaches. It’s refreshing. At this level,Authentic Julién Davenport Jersey, everyone is getting paid to make a play. But, everyone is in the NFL,womens J.J. Watt Jersey, or on the field, womens DeAndre Hopkins Jersey, making a tackle or the right read, check or whatever. But to know you have someone in your corner who is there for you,Authentic Duane Brow Jersey, hold you accountable but also pat you on the back when you’re doing well; it’s an awesome feeling.”

Russell Okung Eyeing Position Switch at the Pro Bowl

but,Whether or not Okung gets in at corner remains to be seen,Authentic Tanoh Kpassagnon Jersey,Authentic Kareem Hunt Jersey, he’s happy and fortunate to have been named to the game after earning his first honor five seasons ago.

they’re amazing competitors (and) they really love the game like me,womens Travis Kelce Jersey, womens Spencer Ware Jersey, too.
